The Blooming Glen Beet for Wednesday June 16, 2010

As we transition from spring into summer the crops from each season overlap for a bit, creating quite a bounty in the distribution room. The spring greens like kale, cabbage, escarole and radicchio all make a brief appearance and then make way for the summer crops like green beans, carrots, potatoes, tomatoes, garlic and eggplants. As you look around the farm it is amazing the array of colors- numerous shades of green from the light green of the onions to the dark green of the peppers. The potato fields are in bloom, a canopy of pale pink, blue and white flowers, home to thousands of lightning bugs both day and night. Since the start of the CSA a month ago, it has been a delight to see everyone at the farm happily heading out into the fields to do their pick-your-own crops, and exploring the Discovery Garden. Soon enough the flower patch will be in bloom- the way this spring has gone it seems everything grows a foot a week! [More]
